Margot at 9: Friends and Still Kitties

Leading into her 9th year, Margot is just soaking up returning t the real world. She and Lochlan returned to the classroom together for the 21/22 school year. Friendship is the master plan for her in this 9th year. Third grade is one of my favorite grades in Elementary school. I am super excited that the twins will get to participate in several classroom and grade-wide projects throughout the school year.

Margot is enjoying soccer recreation soccer and ended up on a team with one Lochlan’s teammates from baseball in 2020. She and Lochlan did kids love soccer for 5 years and it was a welcomed transition over to recreation soccer. While the girls were only playing together for 3 months, watching her run into to soccer mates out in the real world just reminds me how much I love this age. School is still a situation normal for Margot. Her reading is still at the same level as when she was 8. She has taken to reading chapter books finally. Although graphic novels are the go to’s at this age.

I entertained again the idea of starting a girl scout troop for Margot’s grade but I lost steam when I realized there were a lot of parents who wanted in but not interested in the work. Ultimately I let the idea go because I realized that we are approaching my promise that Margot could start doing swim team at age 10.

One of the big milestones that Margot shares with her brother this year, was their first overnight week at camp. Margot was beaming the day we picked her and her siblings up on closing day. The twins were all bummed they couldn’t show us around camp like their big sister did for them. Maybe next summer. Overall the year was a lot of online crap and iPad. It’s been interesting trying to break all these bad habits our kids developed during the pandemic. Am I worried, not really. The kids are pretty self sufficient when it comes to regulating their screen time. Margot has showed interest in cooking and getting batter at roller blading. I am super excited for what is to come in her 10th year. A lot of change with her body and a lot of social changes.
