2023 Happy Holidays from HKfamily5

HKfamily5 kicked off the 2023 year by seeing family and attending the week-long McCall Winter Carnival with skiing, tubing and dog-sledding. That week also saw the start of construction at the HK5Corner House. Our contractor and his excellent team have been working all year on what Brian calls the Monster!

We spent the year celebrating the life of Brian’s mother, Linda, both online and in Aptos. We all had significant milestones this busy year. The kids returned to summer camp at Kennolyn in Santa Cruz. Paley is now well into her sophomore year and enjoyed her first summer as a camp counselor. She took the stage at the district-wide Theaterfest in January to recite her original poem. She and along with twine, joined the local summer recreation swim team along with Lochlan & Margot, GO PARANAS!

The twins are now in 5th grade and getting taller each year. Lochlan loves to share that he is over 5 feet now. His fourth spring season of Little League was with another great team and lessons learned. He spent this Fall in private training to work on pitching and hitting, preparing for Majors next Spring. Margot caught the swimming bug over the summer, fell in love with the guitar at camp and joined another fantastic Fall recreation soccer team with two friends. She was a fantastic as Jafar in Aladdin along with her brother at school.

With construction underway, our summer plans drastically changed to no summer family trip. Brian & Clem took advantage of the change to spend 5 days in New York City while the kids were at overnight camp. We enjoyed five Broadway shows, friends, shopping, and a visit to the Met. Back at home, Brian has spent the year winding down his decade of volunteering with the twins’ exit from the local elementary school next year and designing and arranging all the details going into the Corner House. Clem celebrated his 54th this year and his 25th anniversary at Apple. We are excited to see the Corner House project construction winding down early in the New Year and moving back into our old+new family home.

As a family, we are immensely grateful for our time we have spent with our friends and family, near and far. We are looking forward to new beginnings coming in 2024, from the twin’s 5th-grade graduation and Brian turning 50 to Paley’s trip checking out colleges in the summer. More importantly, Clem getting his new toy, so Paley has her own car. We hope everyone’s new year is full of blessings and good fortune!
