Are you vacating social media? NEW EMAIL LIST
Seriously thinking about it!
With the climate we are in the US today, many people are jumping off social media. Even family members are leaving in droves. Where are we with this change, on the fence, still. It’s hard to leave our only source of information about the world, outside of television. In 2007 our family cut the cable cord and we’ve been living on subscriptions for the past 18 years. Should “WE” be off of social media, YES and NO, considering the growing concern for people in the LGBTQ community and the safety. This are getting worse, AGAIN! Our family has been targeted before and it’s a rough road or pill to swallow when it comes to bowing down, and hiding our family from the world. We have periods where our social media is heavily guarded and this family blog was under password protection. Previous incidents mainly were angry and anti-gay comments. A few years ago, we even received am email attacking our family and our involvement in our community. In all of those incidents our friends and family supported us. But, we have experienced, pales in comparison to many in the LGBTQ+ community has experienced. That said, Social Media is becoming a source of independent news outlets. New outlets are bending the knee and white washing their reporting in favor of the current sitting administration. Freedom of the Press is under attack.
So, what does the future hold for us online, all of us I am sure are thinking or making necessary changes. The fact we have so much data online reminds me of a friend of mine, I made during my oldest’s preschool years. I will be the first to admit two things. One, I thought she was out in left field with her choice to never being on email, or even have an internet presence. That first bit, I will say is genius to avoiding the shit show we have been living in since 2016. I mean 2001-2009 was nuts, but hell, I would live in those GW years in a hot minute. Fast forward almost 15 years since we have met, I can hostly admit. WOW! Was I wrong! She saw the signs, and if I am being brutally honest, I saw the signs from a different perspective but just not as clear as her, nor with the conviction she had to say “no way”!
So what does this mean for our family blog. Technically this blog has been going since 2003, when I jumped ship from my Dotcom days. I started writing a fashion blog in 2001, which got me in to shows for a couple of years. The fashion blog is archived somewhere on my laptop, and I’ve toyed with the idea of printing it into a book for my kids to have some day. The early years of our family blog is available on the archives, but it’s original content has been slowly added over the past few years. Apple decided to end their web design/hosting products for iWeb and I was able to archive the whole site back in 2011, but it was hard to find time to transfer the site over to our new host Squarespace. During COVID lockdown, I found some time, imagine that, to repost some of the old posts. As you can see from the archive for the site, I need to finish that project. I also need to work on printing the posts in books for the kids to keep. Yes, Yes, A digital PDF as well…..
