Goodbye to the NanoFan
Clem has been procrastinating for over a year to get his car properly serviced. While we were down at the beach house I noticed it wasn’t sounding that great. As the month of April progressed it slowly started going down hill. He finally took it in this week and it appears the coolant leak got into the engine cracking a gasket (or maybe a cylinder) and causing more damage. The estimate from the dealership was between 4k-10k depending the extent of the problem. We are now in the position I have been dreading since the twins arrived. I spent most of 2012 and 2013 ridding Clem to decide on what’s the next car because the Mini was cutting it. And with 3 kids it would seriously be a problem when the twins start preschool and I start working.
Here we are 2014 and I gave up nagging him. The bottom line is the poor little NANOFAN is heading to the chop shop for parts. I think Clem is going to get around 1K for the car. The lesson here, don’t hold onto a car to long. My Volvo will 10 years old in 2017 and I plan on trading it in before that happens. I already have 140K miles on that puppy. The Mini is the current record holder, 12 years old and 160K miles. I think the Volvo will pass those numbers before the year is out. The Mini was a tough cookie to the end. Sadly the cars Clem finally settled on to buy are not going to available till late 2015 or 2016. So for now he’s going to have to hoof it on the scooter for the summer and into the Fall. Come the Fall he will need to find a temporary solution till the car he “WANTS” is available.
Goodbye Nanofan!!!!!! You were a really noisy car and while it was fun to go zero to 60 in 4 seconds, I am sure Clem and I will not miss that damn interior rattling sound they could never find over the past 12 years.
