Lochlan at 10: The one Covid Really Stole
Lets just start with Lochlan’s great love for baseball.
Something he got from his Grandpa Dave! and a little from Grandpa Mika! I mean, my dad liked baseball, but love, not as much his Grandpa Dave and Uncle Rom.
Being back on the field for baseball for the second year and a row, really has given some sense of normal this year. Lochlan really blossomed on this years team. The coaches were very present and cared about the kids. I just have to say though, I don’t remember little league being this cut-throat and dramatic for the parents, let alone the kids.
This is his third and half season at baseball and he’s truly enjoy it and wants to keep learning and get better at the sport. I say half because the poor kid only got practices and one game in T-Ball and then COVID hit. See his poor 8th birthday post. He started the Fall out by asking to do Fall Baseball instead of soccer. He said he enjoys soccer but he wanted to work on his baseball skills more. We followed suit by signing him up and was lucky enough to have his Spring coach for the Fall Season. He flourished and enjoyed the whole season.
Sadly the twins 10 Birthday was a failure of epic proportions. Clem and I went to a wedding in early October and what followed was 4 weeks roller coaster ride of spreading COVID in the house. Sadly Lochlan and Margot’s birthday was on the loosing end. We missed so much during the sickness, including my mothers 75 luncheon. But cancelling the twins sleepovers, then their outdoor movie night, just plum hurt all of us. In the end we did our best to make as special as possible. As much as quarantine allowed.
Looking ahead in his 10th year, our hope is Lochlan to continue to explore the world he’s starting to build for himself. At the same time become more comfortable opening up to us and the rest of the world. I know he’s struggled with his ticks these past few years and we struggle right along with him, with our own worries. He’s really learned to become more aware of his surroundings but at the same time, we still trying to normalize things as much as possible for him. I think baseball will continue to be a big part of his world and I know he is really looking forward to the Spring season of baseball. Not to mention, heading back to camp next summer. He had so much fun last summer.
