Margot at 10: Fish Meet Water

Third grade was a fun year to watch unfold, I think Covid has numbed the girl drama down a little this time around the third grade train. Margot loved her third grade teacher and was blessed to have one of her besties in class with her. I do my job in reminding them both, don’t get used to this arrangement, you don’t know what next year will bring. Margot loves her friends but between being in a class with your twin and your best friends, is just to much comfort and far from the real world. This school year we are returned to the twins being in separate classes, to help them separate their lives.

Another way we are hopefully going to separate is their sleeping arrangement. We are so close to getting our permit, financing and contract for our remodel. We already have the 4 bedroom rental, we are just waiting some sign of progress to starting the construction project. The twins have now spent 10 years joined at the hip at home, along with the two years in the same class. Margot has been ready for a long time to have her own room. Lochlan on the other hand, has been biting his nails about the change.

Margot did Girls on the Run for the first time last Spring. She also did the school play with her brother, and the acting but has bit Margot for sure. In the Fall she returned to the stage again in a second play, with her brother as well. She loved both plays but she was really excited to hear that Starting Arts was bringing Annie to her school and immediately told the director she wanted to be one of the bossy orphan’s at the orphanage. She got what wanted and will performing as Pepper in Annie Jr. in the early February. I am amazed that she will have done 3 shows in the span of one year.

Back to sports, Margot was super excited to return to Fall soccer and especially with one of her teammates from last year. She still shines as the team goalie, although her new crop of coaches made sure she was able to play other positions. Kid sports is such a delicate balance of hot to manage a players experience. You want so hard for them to experience everything. Coach’s have other plans. So far Fall Soccer is going pretty great, they are still undefeated, but what I love is watching her on the field during practice, having so much fun with the kids. It’s too easy to be the super agro sport parent in a sport like soccer. I’ve found my energy is just focused on making it fun and easy, to building on her experience and memories of the season.

Over the summer Margot flourished at summer camp, and her face in all the photos we received, just lit up our screen each day. Looking ahead she is really looking forward to return to camp in the summer. She is also looking forward to doing Girls on the Run again at school in the Spring. Margot is doing good in school, just like her brother, but a social butterfly is just in her nature, thanks to me. For summer after 4th grade, she is finally joining a summer league swim team. She’s going to love it all. There is even talk of returning to soccer next Fall. For now the hope for 10 is more fun and more growing with independence and exploring new things.
