What NOT TO WATCH: Tracker

Weigert, McEnany & Graise from TRACKER

Going into it’s third season, the 2024 sleeper hit Tracker, staring Josh Hartley, seems to be making questionable decision that are getting overlooked. I liked the first season of the show, and I got hooked. The show is focused around Hartley as rewardist, you learn a new term every day, who has a deep past of growing up off the grid with his family. His survival skills are then parlayed into a career searching for missing people, only for the reward. The first season was a short one with only 13 episodes, but then came the second season, which felt forced and started the ball rolling on a concerning choices made for the second season cast.

The show features great backstory characters from the Robin Weigert & Abby McEnany as Hartley’s booking agents for his jobs. As well as Eric Graise as his hacker-savvy researcher who digs deep to help his friend/client. In the first season all three characters have prominent roles from episode to episode. When we arrive at season 2, Robin Weigert has left the show and her character has gone off to care for an ailing parent. Followed by a divorce a few episodes in. We finish season 2, with the remaining two characters still active in the storyline. Then out of nowhere, production starts saying that McEnany and Graise will not return for season 2.

Where does that put us with the show. They’ve broken up the lesbian couple, and now the last lesbian character is gone, and the black tech guy, who is a double leg amputee are now off the show. If that’s not some Anti-DEI, Anti-Woke changes, I don’t know what it is. Yes, it is possible all three actors found other work, but nothing is really showing up on their IMDB. Whatever the reason, it’s sad to see these choices as not being a reflection to the tides of society today. From the axing of Colbert & Kimmel for exercising their first amendment. To now shows are curbing casting, to appease these supposed right wing watchers who control media now. How many LGBTQ or people of color will disappear from these shows over the next three years. Let it just settle in, they also disappeared a handicap character. Who is next for the cut?

This was my first recommendation to not watch, purely on the downfall of writing good characters and caving to politics to curate the show. It’s sad Tracker bending the knee, wish they put their characters first. I can only imagine what it was like in the writers room, when they cancelled all these characters.
