REMODEL: What’s With the Window Inside
One of the biggest takeaways from COVID quarantine. Papa needed an official office space. If I am being honest, it was on the wish list at the February 2020 meeting but it was not a priority. The location of the office was an easy choice. The patio in the backyard was always too large, and covering the space would make it appear even larger than needed. Placing the office along the wall to Paley’s bedroom and open onto the dinning area, would give him an area to work and a great view of the backyard.
One of the concerns Clem had was access to the family while he was working. The room would have a pocket door, but he wanted to have more access or a view in the living space. The solution was to create a window that could be open to connect the two worlds. Initially we talked about a opaque window, like a stained glass window. I decided that the window should instead mimic the large bifold doors which sat right next that window wall.
Thanks to the Mad Woodchuck family, the window came to life. We opted to have the window constructed with white oak panes and framing. It was stained to match the rest of the wood work on both sides of the window unit. The overall look was perfect, and beautifully constructed. Now we wait to see if the intention of the window will be released once we are back inside the house.
